Son of Rachel Cook Smith (1812 - ) and Thomas George Smith (1812 - 1860).

John W. Cook, Jr. and Elizabeth Hise Cook had a daughter, Rachel, born in 1812. She married Thomas George Smith in 1831 and they all traveled together from Greene County, Tennessee to Johnson County, Missouri.
Greenberry, Elijah, Mary Ann, and Elizabeth Smith, buried in the Cook Cemetery are children of Rachel and Thomas.
