Spanish-American Vet, John L. Cramer, Dies

John Lee Cramer, 80, of 6610 Bryan Parkway, who served in the U. S. Navy during the Spanish-American War, died Sunday in a Dallas hospital.

Cramer was born in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1876. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 18 and retired in 1931. He had made Dallas his home for almost 50 years.

Since his retirement from the Navy, Cramer had been a notary public. He was a former state commander of the Spanish-American War Veterans and belonged to the Tannehill Masonic Lodge. He also once served as National Grand Coo-Coo* for the Spanish-American War Veterans and Military Order of the Snake.

He is survived by his wife and relatives in New Jersey and Dallas.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Lamar & Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 West Jefferson, with Dr. Harlin J. Roper of the Scofield Memorial Church officiating.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Fitzhugh Lee Camp of the Spanish-American War Veterans and by the Tannehill Masonic Lodge at Oakland Cemetery.
