JAMES SEPHEN (sic) BROWN DIES LAST THURSDAY
Funeral services for James Stephen Brown, 87, who died in the home of his son, Chas. A. Brown, of Nelsonville community, last Thursday, Dec, 3, were held at Nelsonville Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J. H. Clay of Canton. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born near Trenton in Grundy county, Nov. 14, 1855, and moved to this county with his parents, Wm. Joseph and Elizabeth Briscoe Brown, when 9 years of age. On May 26, 1880, he was married to Zarelda Hutcherson, who preceded him in death, Nov. 2, 1932.
He followed the occupation of farming, but had been retired for several years. He had been making his home with his son for the last ten years.
He united with the Nelson Baptist church early in life and had served the church as deacon for many years. He had the respect and esteem of all who knew him.
He is survived by three sons, Merdith O. of Little River, Kans.; James L. of Albuquerque, N. M., and Chas. A. Brown of Nelsonville. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Kate Bywater, of Indianapolis, Ind., four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
