Betty Jane Ellingson Anderson, a retired RN for the City of Seattle, died November 3, 2018 in Santa Rosa, CA. She was 95.

Betty was born in Center, NE, September 16, 1923 to Charles and Mabel Ellingson. She married John Edwin Anderson of Omaha, December 18, 1949.

Betty graduated from Wayne State College in 1946 with a teaching certificate.She taught elementary school for several years before realizing that the medical field was her passion.

She graduated from the University of Mebraska's School of Nursing in Omaha (where she was known among her fellow nursing students as "Herc" short for Hercules due to her strength) as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952.

In 1955, Betty moved to Seattle with her husband, John, for his pursuit of a career with Boeing. After staying home to raise three children and volunteering with The Child Hearing League, Betty returned to work for the City of Seattle's Public Health Department.

She became manager of the White Center Public Health Center and was awarded the City of Seattle's Employee of the Year by Mayor Wes Uhlman in 1974.

Following retirement in 1985, Betty and John moved to Carlsbad, CA, enjoying nearly 25 years of retirement together in the southern California community.

Betty was an avid quilter and leaves behind many beautiful and comforting quilts, as well as recipes for her fabulous pies.

She will be remembered most for her kindness and easy laugh, thoughfulness and service to others.

Betty was pre-deceased by her husband, John, on December 8, 2009.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Anderson of Raleigh, NC, John (Susan) Anderson of San Clements, CA, Suzanne Anderson of Guerneville, CA and grandchildren, Matt Bowers of Westminster, MD, Andrew Bowers of Greensboro, NC and Nicole Anderson of San Clemente, CA. and by her family of Fijian caregivers, Alisi, Zach and Sam of Santa, Rosa, CA.
