Oliver P. Luther, 69, died Tuesday at his home, 560 N. Zaragosa Rd. He had been a resident of El Paso since 1919, a Lower Valley cotton farmer. Formerly associated with First Federal Savings & Loan Assn. Prior to his association with the El Paso National Bank as assistant Vice-Pres. in charge of real estate and loans, Member of the St. Clements Episcopal church, Masonic Lodge, Bachelor's Club. Survivors, wife, Mrs. O. P. Luther, El Paso, 3 sons, Oliver P. Luther, of Tucson, Ariz., Frank C. Luther, of El Paso & Paul A. Echols, of Austin, Texas, daughter, Mrs. G. L. Batton, Ft. Sill, Okla, 2 sisters, Miss Betty Luther and Mrs. N. L. Blower, both of El Paso, 7 grandchildren. Graveside services 10 a.m. Friday in the Ft. Bliss National cemetery with the Rev. B. M. G. Williams & Dr. Kenneth Rice officiating. Active pallbearers: Frederick S. Strelitz, James A. Dick Jr., Ralph A. Lowenfield, Richard O. Seaney, Thomas J. Carroll and Robert W. Bothwell. Named after his grandfather, Oliver was born in Bell Buckle, TN to Frank Steed Luther and Irene Whitaker - his father passed from TB when Oliver was about 12. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso during WWI, and his mother and two sisters moved to El Paso. He first married Margaret Gaston-Terrell, they had two sons, Oliver Jr and Frank Callier. After Margaret's death in 1946, he married 2nd to the widow Carolyn Perkins Echols in 1952 - no issue. Note: Carolyn was Oliver's distant cousin through a common ancestor, Stephen Bedford.
