Former Wadena resident, Eldon Samuel Oothoudt was born on May 28, 1923, to Vernon A. and Hazel F. (Nutter) Oothoudt in Cushing, Morrison County, MN. He passed away on March 9, 2011 at the age of 87, at the Elder's Home in New York Mills. Eldon served as a United States Merchant Marine during WWII from December 22, 1943 until his honorable discharge on July 11, 1945. After returning home, Eldon and Adelaide D. Schwanke were united in marriage on November 24, 1945 in Little Falls. He lived in the Wadena area for over 51 years and worked as a mechanic. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family, and pursuing his interests of hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and appreciating the outdoors. Eldon was preceded in death by his wife Adelaide on March 28, 2009; his parents Vernon and Hazel; son Randy Oothoudt; grandson.
