Jimmy was a son of Susan (Abrams) and James Kinslow Simmons. He and his 5 siblings were born at Osceola, Michigan, where his father had been a miner. At an early age, Jimmy and his family moved to Globe, Arizona, where his father mined for copper. In about 1920, the family moved to the Fresno area, eventually settling at Sanger where they became grape farmers. Jimmy married Viola Carpenter. They had no children. Jimmy was survived by his wife and numerous nieces and nephews who loved his kind and gentle ways and sense of humor.
