Alta Mae Pearson of 20938 Joe Taylor Rd died Feb. 17 1999 at Heritage Nursing Home. Services were held at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Stripling and the Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Howard Pearson, who died June 7, 1998; parents, Joe and Bessie Taylor; brother, Freedman Taylor; and sister Buna Taylor.
She is survived by he daughters, Paulette (Darrell) Watson of Berry and Charlotte Hocutt of Northport; son, William Ted (Connie) Pearson of Chattanooga, TN, sister, Flora Lee Taylor of Berry; special niece, Freida Taylor of Tuscaloosa; one granddaughter, seven grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Pearson was born April 10, 1920 in Tuscaloosa County. She was an active member of New Hope church and Sipsey Association, serving in many positions. Her many church, family, civic and professional activities included; President of Etteca School PTA, President of Northside Band Boosters, Trustee of Boone Cemetery, member of Etteca Home Demonstration Club, correspondent for Fayette County Broadcaster and a Northport newspaper.
Mrs. Pearson loved to research and record church and family history. She spent her life loving God and caring for her home, family, flowers, garden and friends.
Her grandsons, Darren Watson, Dale Watson, Donnie Watson, Randy Hocutt, Greg Hocutt, Byron Averette, Mark Pearson and Jay Pearson, all served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers: relatives and friends of the New Hope and surrounding communities, Dr. Chris McGee, Staff of DCH Tuscaloosa Emergency Room, Medical Sub-Intensive Care Unit, 4th Floor North; Dr. Debra Davis, Dr. Joe Wallace, Dr. Eugene Marsh and Neurology Consultants of Tuscaloosa, Dr. Gene Alldredge and Associates, Dr. Jennifer Bolton, Northstar Paramedic Services, Dr's Reddy, Sundar and Canakis, Brother George Jackson, Heritage Health Care Staff, and friends of the family.
