Robert C. Wiant "Poppy" "Speedy" "Lefty," 75, died June 20, 2006.

Born in East Brady, Pa. to George and Gladys Marie Smith, he lived most of his life in the Akron area. Mr. Wiant served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company Pilot Plant with over 40 years of service. He also worked as a Copley-Fairlawn school bus driver. Mr. Wiant was a member of Summit Christian Church where in retirement he served as the church janitor.

Preceded in death by brother, George; he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn "Jean" whom he married on July 29, 1954; children, Nancy (Tim) Bean of Copley Twp., Barbara (Rick) Fisher of Medina, Thomas Wiant of Copley, Diane (Dan) Grimes of Cuyahoga Falls, and Carol (Joe) Wisniewski of Barberton; grandchildren, Priscilla (Jim) Hlas, Bob Bean, Kristopher, Andrew, James, and Jennifer Grimes; great-grandchildren, Emma and Timmy Hlas; and brother, James (Millie) Wiant of Akron.
