"LUCRETIA BOWEN, Scipio, N. Y. 74 5 mo. 31 1861
"Widow of Benjamin Bowen.
"She was for many years an invalid, and during the last few years of her life was unable to attend Meeting, which was to her a great privation. Her trials were greatly increased by the death of her husband, whose society and tender care had in a great measure mitigated her sufferings.
"She was an example of patience and submission; and though permitted, at times, to feel great discouragement, on account of her unworthiness, her mind was stayed upon the Lord."
—The American Annual Monitor for 1862; or Obituary of the Members of the Society of Friends in America, for the Year 1861, published New York: William Wood, 1862, Vol. 5, pp. 12–13.
