Elizabeth M. Smith, 89, of Evansville, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Good Samaritan Home.

She was a graduate of Christian College, currently known as Columbia College.

She worked for Kmart and Hallmark, where she designed greeting cards, and as a designer for Wirth Florist.

She was a member of the Evansville Garden Club, Evansville Sinawik Club and Christ Church United Church of Christ.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Carter and Toni Smith of St. Louis; and two grandchildren, Jay and Katie Anne Smith.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, with burial in St. Joseph Memorial Park in Missouri.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Elizabeth M. (Carter) Smith, 89, Evansville, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at a health-care center in Evansville.

Mrs. Smith worked at K-mart and Hallmark, where she designed greeting cards. She also was a designer for the Wirth Florist.

Born in St. Joseph on March 5, 1912, she was a graduate of Christian College, now Columbia College, in Columbia, Mo.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Evansville Garden Club and Evansville Sinawik Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ashley M. and Mary A. Carter.

Surviving: a son, Carter A. Smith, St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. today, Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Arrangements: Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home in Evansville.

The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Margaret Carter to Mr Robert L. Smith of New York, son of Mr and Mrs Willey J Smith of Philadelphia took place at 8 o'clock last night at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Ashley M Carter. The Rev. Earl F. Riney read the double ring service before the fireplace, which was banked with palms ferns and white snapdragons. Mrs. J R Lewis played the wedding music

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore the wedding gown of her grandmother, the late Mrs. L. M. Carter. She carried a colonial bouquet of bride roses and blue delphinium. Miss Huberta Frederick, who was the bride's only attendant, wore a gown of blue marquisette and carried an arm bouquet of Sweetheart roses. Mr. Earl Newbill acted as best man. Miss Alta Long and Miss Ruth Thompson lighted the candles.

The dining table held two wedding cakes, which were wreathed in ferns and white snapdragons. Following the ceremony, which was attended by the immediate families, a reception was held in the garden. Mr and Mrs Smith left for a honeymoon to Cape Cod Mass. They will be at home after August 15 in New York.

Mr. and Mrs. Wiley J. Smith, Philadelphia; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Korf, Savannah, Ga.; and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Brill, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. W. A.. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Manifold, Mrs. C. R. Lewis, Mrs. C. C. Lewis, and Miss Dorothy Gurley, all of St. Joseph.

Smith on 23 Jul 1940 in Jackson County, Missouri. They were later divorced. She died at age 89 in the Good Samaritan Home of Evansville, Indiana of "Alzheimer's Dementia," according to the death certificate. Her occupation was described as "Artist."
