Northfield News, Feb. 28, 1996: Cora Julietta Koester, 87, of rural Northfield died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1996, at the Dilley Unit of Northfield Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born June 30, 1908, to Austen and Clara (Bente) Baalson in Glenwood and grew up on her parents farm at Brooten. She graduated from Brooten High School and Park Region Luther College in Fergus Falls, after which she taught in rural schools in Pope, Stearns, Scott and Rice Counties. She married William K. Koester on April 12, 1939. The couple lived on their farm south of Northfield. As a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, she had served on the education board and the board of deacons in addition to her active work in the churchs womens organization. Koester valued education and instilled this value in others throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed gardening, writing letters, reading and crocheting.

Survivors include seven children, David (and Gail) Koester of Dennison; Eunice (and Thomas) Swanson of Mankato; Joan (and Thomas) Lee of Denver, Colo., Doris (and Warren) Schlender of Marietta, Ga., Vernon (and Joan) Koester of Northfield, Marcia Koester of Denver, Colo., and Lois Koester (and Orrin DeLong III) of Jackson; a sister, Amanda Nygaard of Rosemount; a brother, Henry Baalson of Brooten; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers Orin, Elmer, Bert, Arthur and George.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Northfield, the Rev. Jennings Feroe officiating. Organist was Ruth Ferguson. Pallbearers were Peter and Erling Baalson, Rene and Larry Koester, Al Sommers and Arland Schwake.
