Newell E. “Mimi” Turner, 89, St. Joseph, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at her home.
Born Sept. 26, 1914 in Cameron, Mo., she had resided in St. Joseph, Mo. most of her life.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church. She was active in the St. Joseph Chapter of the Postal Employees Auxiliary, where she had been active at the state and national level and had served as past state president.
On Sept. 16, 1938, she married George W. Turner. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Alfred Alvin Turner; a sister, Mildred Thomann; and her parents, Alfred Alvin and Mary Gladys Stafford Thomann.
Survivors: a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Roger Fenn of Cameron, Mo; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Nancy Turner of Byron, Ga; a daughter, Kathy George of the home; two sisters, Dorothy Thomann of St. Joseph, Mo. and Lillian Turner of Torrance, Calif; a sister-in-law, Elouise Turner of St. Joseph, Mo; grandchildren, Becky Estep of Cameron, Mo., Kim and Steve Vento of Broken Arrow, Okla., Cindy and Adam Anderson of Cameron, Mo., Scott and Debbie Turner of Douglasville, Ga., Julie and John Carter of Dallas, Ga., Tom George of St. Joseph, Mo., Thomas George of the home, Becky George of the home, and Willie and Angie George of St. Joseph, Mo; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. today, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts to Hands of Hope Hospice.
