Motion Picture Director. He directed a lot of classic films such as: "It's a Big Country" (1951), "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955), "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" (1957), "The Old Man and the Sea" (1958), "Last Train from Gun Hill" (1959), "The Magnificent Seven" (1960), his more-known hit film along with "The Great Escape" (1963) and "Ice Station Zebra" (1968). Other films he helmed include: "The Hallelujah Trail" (1965), "Hour of the Gun" (1967), "Marooned" (1969), "Joe Kidd" (1972), "Chino" (1973), "McQ" (1974) and "The Eagle Has Landed" (1976). During World War II (WWII), he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Forces' First Motion Picture Unit, directing training films and documentaries. In 1992, he received the Golden Boot Award for his longtime contributions to Westerns. Sturges has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to film, located at 6511 Hollywood Blvd.
