Mrs. Joseph Gries Sr., 56, of Route 1, Newton, died Wednesday night at St. Nicholas Hospital, following a lingering illness.
The former Mary Ann Bogenschuetz was born July 19, 1922, in the Town of Centerville, a daughter of Joseph and Ann Neumeyer Bogenschuetz.
She attended St. Wendel Catholic School, Cleveland.
On Nov. 18, 1942, she was married to Mr. Gries at St. Wedel Catholic Church.
The couple farmed in the Town of Meeme and later moved to a farm in the Town of Centerville. They returned to the Town of Meeme eight months ago.
Mrs. Gries was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman, and its Christian Mother's Society, and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. James (Joanne) Meves of Sheboygan, Mrs. Wallace (Beatrice) Meyer of School Hill, Mrs. Larry (Geraldine) Brendel of Howards Grove, Mrs. Terry (Diane) Kress of Kiel, and Miss Karen Gries, at home; Two sons, Robert of Sheboygan, and Joseph Jr. of rural Newton; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Kolbe, Chilton, and Mrs. Clarence Wolf, Sheboygan, and a brother, Richard of Cleveland.
A brother preceded her in death.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Isidore Catholic Church, following brief family rites, at 9:15 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Francis Rose, former pastor, will be the celebrant. Intombment will be at the Knollwood Mausoleum in the Town of Kossuth (Manitowoc County).
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. A parish vigil will be held there at 8 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Gries' name.
