Kentucky Colonel Edward Headley Martin, Sr., 78, of Lexington, died Friday, October 31, 2003 at Central Baptist Hospital. Mr. Martin was born November 4, 1924 in Lexington, son of the late Joe H. and Lucille Pickett Tiller Martin. He was a draftsman with the Department of Transportation before his retirement in 1992 after over 36 years of service. He graduated from the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, Kentucky in 1945. Edward was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church, Lifetime member of the National Society for the Deaf, the Bluegrass Deaf Club, Deaf Senior Citizens and the Louisville Senior Citizens Club. He is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Turner Martin; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward H. and Linda S. Martin, Jr.; a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Green, all of Lexington; one step-brother, Charles "Jock" Sutherland of Nicholasville; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth (Logan III) Weiler, Kelly Green (Jason) Crume, William E. Martin and Gene E. Foley; two great-grandchildren, Logan Weiler IV and Elise Weiler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Hazel Martin and one brother, William "Bill" Martin. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway, where services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 P.M. with Reverend Sandra E. Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kentucky School for the Deaf or the KSD Alumni Association.
