Mabel was also the first grandchild of John Henry and Selina Cooper and of Erwin and Anna (Cooper) Stanhope and the first great-grandchild of John Cooper (age 90) and of George and Eliza Daubner.
Mabel married Melville A. Bates (b. 16 Nov. 1897) on June 30, 1923. They had four children born of the marriage: Bruce, b. June 1924; Gerald, b. July 1926; Marian b. July 1927; Marjorie, b. Aug. 1928.
The family lived in Port Huron and Hart, Michigan before settling in Pentwater, Michigan in 1930.
The marriage eventually ended in divorce (about 1948).
