Obituary

Died on Sunday morning. Nov 19th 1911. Mrs Mary Seaman aged 78 years.

A simple service was held at her home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev, Wilber Evans, The burial was in a little cemetery south of Faulkton, that she might still be near her son Robert and his wife Emma, who and so long and tenderly cared for her. There was a wealth of flowers sent from her friends and from the Ladies Aid Society of the Congregational church, the Tuesday Club, and the Degree of Honor, of which Mrs. Emma Seaman is a member. Special mention should be made of a floral pillow and roses from Robert Seaman, and of 78 roses, one for each year of her life, from her sister, Ella F. Jackman of Oshkosh, Wis.

Mary A. Jackman was born November 22nd, 1833 in Sardinia, NY. When she was twelve years old she, with her father’s family, moved in a covered wagon from New York to McHenry County, Ill. From there they moved to Green Bay, Wis. When she was eighteen years old she returned to Sardinia, NY and was married there on May 15th, 1856 to Andrew Seaman, and then to Arcade, Wyoming County, NY. While they were staying for a short time in Cortland, NY her husband was accidentally injured on December 8th, 1882, and died the following day, December 9th. She returned to Arcade and in 1890 came South Dakota to be with her sons and has lived in Faulkton for the greater part of the time since then. She leaves three sons and one daughter: Fred A., of Faulkton, at present in Las Angeles, Cal., Charles of California, Alice (Mrs. E.W. Wilcox), of Albion, NY, and Robert of Faulkton , who has always lived with his mother. She leaves two sisters, Jennie E. Jackman of Buffalo, NY and Ella F Jackman of Oshkosh, Wis.

Mrs. Seaman was a woman of culture and refinement, very quiet and unassuming. Behind the illness of a simple record of a long life which includes motherhood and widowhood and many changes, there is always a great story that we do not realize; but we know that the quiet years and the gentle slipping away to her reward were well earned. –
