BATTE, Anne Morgan (Goodpaster) – New Minas. Anne Batte died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at her home in New Minas, Nova Scotia after a prolonged illness. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1948, in Princeton, New Jersey, to LTC (later Gen.) Andrew J. Goodpaster and the former Dorothy Dulaney Anderson. Her childhood was spent at various Army posts in the United States, France and Germany. She graduated from Wakefield High School, Arlington, VA in 1966. After attending Westhampton College in Richmond, VA, and Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia, she married Lt. Robert Wilson in 1969, living in Germany, Belgium and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, before relocating to Richmond, Virginia, where she raised 4 children. In 1996, she was remarried to Robert Bolling Batte in Salisbury, North Carolina. She emigrated from North Carolina to Nova Scotia in December 2005. She fell in love with her new home while maintaining close ties with her native country, becoming a Canadian citizen on 14 April 2011. Anne's love of music started early, singing in school and church choirs, later playing clarinet in the school band. At university, she pursued a course of study in Early Childhood Education and Music Education, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree. Later she studied at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia, earning a Master of Arts in Church Music and Christian Education. She maintained lifelong ties with the Episcopal Church in the US and the Anglican Church in Canada. She had been a member of St. James Anglican Church in Kentville for several years before her death, actively participating in church activities, particularly the church choir. She also was a member of Kings Chorale. Anne is survived by her loving husband, Robert Bolling Batte of New Minas, Nova Scotia; one sister, Susan Sullivan of Alexandria, Virginia; four children, Dulaney Wilson of Charleston, South Carolina; Edward Wilson of New Minas, Nova Scotia; Sarah Nesnow of Warwick, Rhode Island; and Susan Wilson-Leath of Falls Church, Virginia; and 2 grandchildren. A funeral memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday June 12, 2012 in the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville with The Reverend Cathy Pharo officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. James Anglican Church (18 Prospect Avenue, Kentville, Nova Scotia B4N 4H7) or to the Canadian Red Cross.
