Dewey Fielden Baker.
Dewey Fielden Baker, age 78, of Galena, Mo., passed away Aug. 27, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. He was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Galena, to Charlie Lynn and Roxie Elizabeth Baker. He was the first born of eight children. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific in World War II. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the Korean Conflict. Dewey and Dorothy Ruth Short were married on March 30, 1946, in Stone County, and had four children. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Johnny Bill (Pete,) and David Wesley. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; his older daughter, Patricia Ann and her husband, Saadat Syal of Houston, Texas, and daughter Sheryl Lynn and her husband, Florentino "Tino" Manrique of Galena, Mo., along with their two daughters, Deidra Huddleston and Sarah Manrique. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Johnson; his brother, Tom Baker; as well as a host of friends and other relatives. Dewey Baker accepted Christ as his personal savior in Wichita, Kan., in 1982. He and his wife were active in Horsecreek Church in Stone County, where he and his wife both went to school. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Dewey was an avid stamp collector along with his father in his earlier years. He also loved fishing in Ozark rivers and lakes with his family and cousins. He was a lifelong serious gardener as attested to by many recipients of the abundance of his garden. He was also a beekeeper. Visitation will be 3 t o5 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at Cheatham Stumpff Funeral Home in Galena. Services will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at 65 Full Gospel Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery. Published 08/29/0 4
