Walter J. Thieleke, 82, a Village of Cleveland resident, died Friday evening in St. Nicholas Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 28, 1894, in the Town of Meeme (Manitowoc County), a son of Julius and Elizabeth Schumacher Thieleke.
He married Hilda Mueller Oct 27, 1917. She died April 9, 1939.
Aug. 14, 1943, he married Ella Kress, of Cleveland.
Mr. Thieleke farmed in the Town of Meeme until 1943, and then was employed at the Vollrath Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1958.
He was a member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland, and had served as health officer for the Village of Cleveland for seven years.
Mr. Thieleke is survived by his widow; one son, Vernon, Howards Grove; one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Delores) Karsteadt, R. 3, Plymouth; two step-sons, Vernon Kress, Cleveland, and Herbert Kress, Kohler; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Henry Koch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Stolenberg Funeral Chapel, Cleveland, after 4 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday, and at the church from noon Monday until the time of services.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Thieleke's name.
