Biography
Myrtle Frances Ennor was born in 1895 in Georgia; her widowed mother, Nellie Baier Ennor, brought Myrtle and her younger sister to Minneapolis shortly thereafter. In 1905 Nellie Ennor married Fred. E. Oliver, who then adopted Myrtle. The family lived in St. Paul, and by 1930 Myrtle was working as a stenographer in the Canadian Government Office.
Myrtle married Edward Thye, a widower with a teenage daughter, in November of 1942, just after his election as lieutenant governor. The couple enjoyed a long honeymoon on the West Coast.
Edward Thye became governor of Minnesota in April of 1943 when Harold Stassen stepped down to join the Navy. He held the office until 1947.
Edward Thye died in 1969. Myrtle Thye died in 1972 in Northfield, Minnesota.
