She was born on July 15, 1916, in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Martin and Selma(Prochnow) Erickson. Bernice attended Valders High School. On Oct. 31, 1934, she married Hilary Zutz in Valders. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1957. Bernice belonged to the Ladies Aid Society and Niles Homemakers. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and spending time with family.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Joan Nass, Manitowoc; Carol and Robert Dvorak, Sturgeon Bay; Elaine and Alex Lau, Brillion; three sons and daughers-in-law: Ronald and Carol Zutz, rural Valders; Roger and Kathy Zutz, rural Valders; and Hilary and Mary Zutz, Valders; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Laverne and Harriet Erickson, Milwaukee; and a daughter-in-law: Vernetta Zutz, rural Valders. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a son: Gerald Zutz; a son-in-law: Charles Nass; a granddaughter: Linda Zutz; and two brothers-in-law: Hugo and William Zutz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Collins. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Robert Hankwitz, with burial at St. Peter Church Cemetery, Collins.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Collins, from 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007, until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to (private) and the nurses and hospice staff at Aurora Medical Center for their care and compassion shown towards Bernice and her family.
