Gladys C. Zutz, age 96, of Kiel, formerly of Collins and Hilbert, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Oak Creek Assisted Living Facility in Kiel.

She was born December 9, 1916 in Brillion, daughter of the late Fred W. & Helen (Glasow) Behnke. She married John C. Zutz on June 17, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion; he preceded her in death on April 15, 1974.

Gladys was a 1935 graduate of Brillion High School and worked as a book keeper at the Brillion Iron Works and Lakeland Egg Co-op. Following a number of years of employment, Gladys worked for Michiels in Brillion until her retirement at the age of 80. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Collins where she had previously served as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and was a Charter Member of the Ladies Aid. In addition to her time in church, she also devoted time as a 4-H leader for Manitowoc County. Throughout her life, and in the years of retirement, Gladys occupied her time with many hobbies including puzzles, word searches, cross stitching, embroidery, quilting and she never passed up an opportunity to play a game of Sheepshead. She was truly a woman of faith and family; Gladys always looked forward to family gathering and time spent spoiling her grandchildren with delicious home made chocolate chip cookies or a quilt created by her hand. Most of her favorite stories revolved around her family and those people she loved.

Survivors include her daughter: JoDelle Wagy of Plymouth; 2 grandchildren: Erika (Tim) Kelling of Plymouth, Tanya (Heath) Arnold of Plymouth; 4 great grandchildren: Kaden & Chaislyn Kelling, and twins Addison & Alaina Arnold; and a sister-in-law: Mildred Behnke of Brillion. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law: Paul Wagy; twin great grandchildren: Zander & Izaya Kelling; a brother: Earl Behnke; and 2 sisters: Doloris (Armin) Schwalenberg and Myrna (Melvin) Koch.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (1212 Teckla Place) in Kiel with the Rev. Robert Hankwitz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Collins. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 pm until the time of service on Sunday, August 4, 2013.

Memorials given in the name of Gladys C. Zutz are appreciated for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The family would like to thank Judy and the entire staff of Oak Creek Assisted Living Facility, as well as the members of Heartland Hospice for all of the loving care they provided to Gladys.
