Edward Nething Sr., 70, of 4027 Menasha Ave., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 26, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Glenn H. Unke will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Nething was born Jan. 4, 1912, at Manitowoc, son of the late Frederick and Mary Moss Nething. He grew up in Manitowoc, was educated in Manitowoc schools and reside here all his life. He married Lila Thompson Nov. 9, 1932, at Manitowoc. Mr. Nething had worked for C. Reiss Coal Company, Manitowoc, from 1950 to 1971, and then at Manitowoc Engineering Company until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and Manitowoc Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Lila, two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Julia Nething Jr. of Westerly, R.I., and Robert and Gladys Nething of Two Rivers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Doris and Milton Weber of Mishicot and Beverly Long of Manitowoc; three brothers, William and John Nething of Manitowoc and Edwin Nething of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Miss Rose Nething and Mrs. Chester (Ann) Karbon of Manitowoc, 17 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A daughter, Carol Ann, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday until the time of service.
