HOMETOWN - The Rev. John W. King, 102, of Hometown died July 1, 1999, in Teays Valley Center, Hurricane, after a short illness.

He was a 47-year resident of Hometown and was retired from Monsanto Co., Nitro, with 25 years' service. He was a former miner and a member of Hometown Church of God Mission and the Sunshine Quartet, where he was a songwriter and composer. He was a founder and an ordained minister of Church of God Mission Association. He had pastored 14 churches in Kanawha, Putnam and Mason counties.

Surviving: daughter, Evelyn R. Secord of South Charleston; sons, Harry R. of Eleanor, Donald W. of Nitro, Glen K. of Summersville, S.C.; stepson, Harry Ray of Deland, Fla.; sister, Goldie Bass of Hometown; 48 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Joey Scarberry and Paul Arthur officiating. Burial will be in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
