She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years; her two devoted children of San Diego, CA., her sister of Raytown, MO.; her brother of Topeka, KS: and her sister-in-law of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Mary Kay graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Junction City, Kansas in 1960. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State University in 1964 and a master's degree in education from the University of Kansas in 1974. She was a elementary school teacher for many years in the Shawnee Mission, KS. schools.
When she and her family moved to California in 1985 she embraced the world of real estate. Together with her husband Joe they built a successful business with ERA Eagle Realty in the San Diego area. They were quite the power couple and were ranked the #2 team in the United States for ERA with annual sales over 10 million dollars.
Mary Kay's closest friends in California were members of her Bible study group. She later developed a passion for writing and was a member of the San Diego Christian Writer's Guild. She became a poet and a published Christian author.
Visitation hours will be 7 PM-9 PM at the Johnson Penwell Gabel Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 3, 2012 in Junction City, KS. Mary Kay was cremated. A memorial mass will follow on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will be private at St Mary's Cemetery in Junction City.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Francis Xavier High School, 218 N. Washington Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
