~Obituary~
Harry N. Althouse, 93, formerly of Hamburg, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Pinebrook Personal Care Center, Orwigsburg, where he resided since November 2012. He previously resided at the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp, since September 2007.

Harry was the husband of Mary L. (Schaeffer) Althouse, who died June 16, 2007.

Born in Maidencreek Twp, he was the son of the late William D. and Effa N. (Rahn) Althouse.

Harry was a 1937 graduate of Ontelaunee High School; and attended McCann's Business School, Reading, for one year. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Harry first worked as a molder for Hamburg Plow Works for 20 years. He then worked for 13 years for Evansville Cement Company; and last worked as the caretaker of St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. Harry also was a school crossing guard for the Borough of Hamburg for many years. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg.

Harry was a past Noble Grand of the former Symmetry Lodge #103 I.O.O.F., Hamburg. He was also a former member the Hamburg Senior Citizens. Harry was a volunteer and driver for the Hamburg Ambulance. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Remington Hunting Club, Renova, PA. Harry also enjoyed bowling, puzzles, home crafts, and playing cards and dominos.

Harry is survived by three sons: John P., husband of Pamela (Bear) Althouse, Hammondsport, NY; Michael P., husband of Annette (Roth) Althouse, Hamburg; and David W., husband of Laura (Baird) Althouse, Kernersville, NC; and three daughters: Barbara L. (Althouse), widow of John Snell, Shartlesville; Dorothy A. (Althouse) Balthaser, Hamburg; and Patricia F. (Althouse), wife of Michael VanBuskirk, Gettysburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: J. Scott Snell, Richard Snell, Pamela (Snell), wife of William Pickel, Julie (Balt-haser), wife of Frank Zan-gari, Kelly (Althouse) Va-lone, Lindsay (Althouse), wife of Craig Gerringer, Jr., Zachary Althouse, Marybeth Althouse, and Stuart Althouse; two step-grandchildren: Joshua Wright and Daniel Wright; nine great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Harry was predeceased by a daughter, Susan M. Althouse, died February 1, 1951; and two brothers, George W. Althouse and William D. Althouse.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John's (Gernant's) Cemetery, Ontelaunee Twp. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences, please visit, www.leibenspergerfuneralhomes.com.
