Before the Civil War, George was a carpenter. On May 12, 1861, in Norfolk, Virginia, he enlisted for one year in 6th Virginia Infantry, Company "D". On June 1, 1861 he was appointed 3rd Sargent; on October 17, 1861 he was reduced to Private; September 8, 1862 he was discharged using the Conscript Act, over age; by May 19,1863 he was a POW in Pike County, KY. He was sent to Camp Chase. After the war he was living at Chapel St. Norfolk, Virginia. In 1886 he was a member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp, UCV. He died October 1889.
