Mary Lane inherited a commitment to education along with a devotion to her family and friends from her Mother and Father, remaining passionate about both throughout her life. At 15 years of age, she enrolled at Mississippi College beginning a journey that later resulted in graduating from The University of Mississippi Medical School in 1959. After practicing General Medicine for a while, she would go on to become a Psychiatrist. Mary Lane remained dedicated to Mental Health and the Healing Arts, a dedication that lasted the rest of her life.
Mary Lane will be laid to rest in the Prentiss, Mississippi Town Cemetery next to William "Bill" F. Wheatley, her beloved Husband of over 50 years. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Bill is waiting to welcome his "Beautiful Bride" home for eternal rest by his side
Mary Lane leaves behind Sons W.F. "Billy" Wheatley (Lisa) of Clinton and Andrew Leo Seth Wheatley of Jackson; Daughter Elaine Wheatley Brown (Chris) of Chelsea, Alabama; Grandsons Stephen Brown and Patrick Brown and Granddaugter Mary E. Wheatley, all of Chelsea, Alabama; and a host of Nieces and Nephews. Mary Lane touched many lives during her lifetime, all of which join the family in mourning her passing.
A visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 from 5:30pm until 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of The Creator in Clinton. A funeral service celebrating Mary Lane's life will be held the following day at 11:00, with visitation from 9:00am until the service.
