CLAUDE — John Matsy Heck V, 82, of Claude died
Saturday, July 21, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Claude Cemetery with Derek Heck officiating. Military rites will be by American Legion Post 344. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Claude.

Matsy was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Cimarron, N.M., to Ida Phipps and John Matsy Heck III. He was private in his Christian beliefs, believing Christianity was greater expressed through actions than on the pew. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled
American Veterans.

He married Maxie
McCathern on Oct. 14, 1950, in Hereford.

Matsy served in the Army from 1953 until 1954 in Germany, until he was honorably discharged. He farmed from 1955 until 1990 near
Redfield, S.D., and Hereford, Panhandle and Claude. He often said he and God worked together to provide for his family when he was farming.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxie; his
parents; a brother, John Matsy Heck IV; and two
sisters, Elaine Milligan and June West.

Survivors include three sons, John Heck of Panhandle, Gary and wife Patty Heck and Ron Heck and wife Shannon, all of Claude; a daughter, Vicki Heck of Claude; his grandchildren, Derek and wife Rene of Panhandle, Mat and wife Jennifer of Maryville, Wash., Butch and wife Laci of Panhandle, Justin of Midland, Isaiah, Micah and Joseph Heck, all of Claude, Cecilia Williams and husband
Clayton of Dumas, Colleen Cleaver of Amarillo, Jared and wife Parri of Amarillo, Shenee' Bichsel and husband Dee of Claude, Alyssa, Gabrielle, and Shiloh, all of Claude; 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Houston, John, Joshua, Kris, Adrien, Emily, Hagan, Hank, Hawkins and Kaden; three sisters, Elinor Olson of Springer, N.M., Laura Parker of Moriarty, N.M., and Louise Perry of Beatrice, Neb.; a brother, Dave Heck of Ute Park, N.M.; and two lifelong friends, Ed Patterson of Dubois, Wyo., and Leroy Foster of Hereford.

The family suggests memorials be to a charity of choice.
