--------------------------------
Louise Lavelle Ledbetter was born March 15, 1920 in Wynona, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Buford Lee and Nona Effie (Jones) Self. Louise was raised and attended school in Osage County including Mound Valley School, just north of Hominy and Hominy Schools and was a lifelong Hominy area resident.

Louise was married to Arthur Lee Ledbetter on April 22, 1939 and the couple had four children, Wanda Ailene, Marvin Lee, Carol Jean and Albert Ray. Louise, a devoted wife and mother of four children was selected and honored as homemaker of the year in 1982. She was a faithful member of the Mound Valley Extension Homemakers for nearly fifteen years. She found membership in the Homemaker Extension to be very beneficial; enjoying the fellowship of other members and often said, "I never go but what I learn something." Among things that she recalled that she learned was new ideas for sewing, cooking, canning, nutrition and health practices.

In addition to taking care of her home and raising her children, Louise worked outside the home at Cecil Taylor's Laundry (Enterprise Cleaners) for eight years and then for nearly nineteen years as a seamstress for Munsingwear. While employed she always found the time to care for her family and also participate in clubs and other activities.

Louise was a member of the Rebecca Lodge for eighteen years; serving as color bearer, warden, vice-grand, noble grand and past noble grand of the organization. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy and an active member of the Woman's Missionary Union. She frequently contributed to the funeral dinners and made visitations to bereaved homes and the nursing home when she was able. While her children were in school, Louise was an active member of the Parent Teachers Association and contributed to numerous school activities. During her life, in addition to be recognized as the Homemaker of the Year, Louise was honored with a pin for serving as past noble grand in the Rebecca's, a service pin from Munsingwear and a pin from the Extension Homemakers for being "rookie of the year."

After her retirement, Louise provided excellent care for her ill husband, who preceded her in death on June 21, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl Self, J. R. Self and Albert Self; and two sisters, Irene Comer and Alene Brook.

Louise passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of ninety-two. She is survived by two sons, Marvin Lee Ledbetter of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Albert Ray Ledbetter of Hominy, Oklahoma; two daughters, Wanda Ailene Ledbetter of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Carol Jean Schantz of Thomas, Oklahoma; eleven grandcildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Cox of Prattville, Oklahoma; numerous neices and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Formby officiating. Burial will be at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
