He was a member of the First Christian Church. He was the ROTC Instructor at Satsuma High School for 10 years, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 49.
Robert loved to play the drums and had served as drum major at both Murphy High School and Springhill College.
Prior to his military career he played semi-pro baseball.
He was survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Ella M.Gunter Locke of Chickasaw, Al.; one daughter, four sons, one sister, one brother,seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services were held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5, 1996 followed by a graveside service and interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
