Kenneth Daniel Newberg, age 84, a Manitowoc resident, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002 at The Jens Family Funeral Home, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Brian Staude will officiate with burial of his cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, with Military Graveside rites accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post 3659.

Kenneth was born Jan. 28, 1918 at Chicago, Ill., son of the late Charles and Alma Knell Newberg. He grew up and was educated in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High school. He was employed as a custodian with the Manitowoc Public School system until his retirement in 1983.

He was married to Cecelia Ann Heili on Aug. 10, 1940 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. They celebrated 60 years together. Cecelia preceded him in death Oct. 2, 2000.He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was an usher and served on Church Council.

A veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Germany where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Two Rivers. Ken enjoyed bowling, painting, drove a school bus and was a great fix-it man.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel and Nancy Newberg, Manitowoc; Tim and Kim Newberg, Manitowoc; three daughters: Judith A. Kasten, Lewisburg, Tenn; Kay Lynne and Michael Blandin, Manitowoc; Connie Rae Newberg and her fiancé Rick Farr, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Paul (Debi) Kasten, Mark (Diane) Kasten, Becky (Kurt) Satterbak, Jon Newberg, James (Amy) Newberg, Brian Blandin, Austin and Erik Newberg: five great-grandchildren: Charles, Emily, Violet and Jolene Kasten and Andie Lynne Satterbak; a brother: Carl Newberg, Manitowoc; sister: Ruth Dassow, Sheboygan: Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernard and Irene Heili, Manitowoc; Sophie and Clarene Schmidt, Montana; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. In addition to his parents and wife Cecelia, he as preceded in death by a sister: Alice Behrmann; two grandchildren: Christopher and Angela Newberg and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Relatives and friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory until the time of service at 3 p.m.

A Memorial Fund has been established in his name.
