Lucian Newberry, age 89, of 2004 Columbus St., Manitowoc, died Saturday, June 10, 1995, at the Park Lawn Nursing home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 1995, at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Hugger will officiate with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born August 17, 1905, in Chardon, Ohio, son of the late William R. and Vera Wyatt Newberry. He attended schools in Mauston, Wis. and graduated from Mauston High School in 1923. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and the Northwestern University in Evenston, Ill. He married Olive Benedict, August 4, 1934, in Darlington, Wis. Following their marriage the couple resided in Fond du Lac and then came to Manitowoc in 1936. Lucian was in charge of the office of Wisconsin Department of Taxation until 1943 when he became employed at the Aluminum Company, later known as Mirro. In 1957, he became secretary and treasurer of the company until retiring in 1970. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 4, 1994. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was very active in various phases of the church work. He served as treasurer of the American Baptist Churches of Wisconsin for 11 years. Lucian was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #65 F&AM and also was affiliated with the Manitowoc Chapter #16, Manitowoc Council #18 and the Manitowoc Commandery #45. He was a member of both the Wisconsin and the American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and the Manitowoc Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Olive, Manitowoc; a daughter, Joan Chandler, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lorraine Newbery, Plainfield, Wis.; four grandchildren, Kristine, David and Pattie Chandler, California, Robert Jr. and Melissa Newberry, Kansas; four sisters-in-law, Miss Bernice Benedict, Manitowoc, Mrs. Wyatt Newberry, LaCrosse, Mrs. Edward Newberry, Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Lauren Tichenor, Waupun; one brother-in-law, Jerold Jenson, Newport Richey, Fla.; 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers and a son-in-law.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Monday evening visitation.

The Jens Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
