On 26 March 1969, Private First Class Hurley Millard Boyd was serving as an infantryman in the 3rd Platoon, C Company, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Brigade in Quang Ngai Province in South Vietnam. He was wounded while in combat action when a hostile booby trap detonated.
PFC Boyd was evacuated to a military hospital at Camp Zama, Japan, where he died of his wounds on 2 April 1969.
