Max was born in Etna Township, as the 5th child, 3rd daughter of Charles V. "Charlie" Stowe and Lena M. Bates. Married Dan Sharar at Orleans Parish Courthouse, New Orleans, Louisiana, June 16, 1945. She then lived there for 3 months until he was able to be discharged from the service. As a result, she became very fond of oysters. She eventually became the mother of 2 daughters, and taught school at various Hardin County locations between 1944 and 1987. She was well suited for the job, although I can't truthfully say she always enjoyed it. Nicknames: Charlie, Auntie Max. She had Blue Eyes. She disliked "Doris" a great deal and never used more than a middle initial. She died rather suddenly of Cardiac Arrest at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. She was a two time survivor of breast cancer. She was very well respected and widely known in her local area. I will only say that she was one of my dearest friends and a nearly constant companion in her final years. She belonged with us, we were her family. She was 'mine', which is only a word reserved for a small group of my family. She was a female version of Walter Matthau. Yes, she really was that funny, and an unforgettable character, just like him. She was extremely kind, loving, and had unfailing generosity, as I hear he really was. She really likes anything purple or lavender, just in case you want to send a flower. We are not actually related by "true" "bloodlines", but if anyone can prove me to the contrary, Lord Bless Them and let them email me.

If any former students of hers have pictures of her like the one shown, I would appreciate an email. This is the only one of her as this age in my possession. I have one when she is around 20, in even worse condition, and that is a snapshot my late great-aunt likely took.
