Hubert R. Aggen, 88, of 825 S. 23rd St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening, March 9, 1992, at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 1992, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Revs. Jonathan Stern and Bruce McKenney will officiate and entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.
Born January 29, 1904, in Peshtigo, Wis., son of the late Henry D. and Sophia Wichmann Aggen. He moved to Sheboygan as a boy and graduated from Sheboygan High School. He married the former Dorothy Burhop November 19, 1927, in Sheboygan, where the couple resided until 1930, when they moved to Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1977.
Mr. Aggen was a Commercial Sign Painter by trade for 60 years and also operated the Aggen Paint and Sign Store on Marshall Street. He was well known for his custom sign work throughout the area and was most noted for the “Budweiser” sign on the eat end of Washington Street in Manitowoc. He formerly retired in 1969, but continued specialized signs and lettering until 1988.
He was a charter member and Past President of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Aggen was also a member and Past President of the Manitowoc County Master Builders Association and a member of the National Painters and Contractors Association for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Aggen of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and William Bell of Omaha, Neb., Marilyn and Clifford Kraft of WestChester, Pa.; grandchildren, Robin and Ken Staroska, Nicholas and Barbara Bell, Cindy and Daryl Fuchs, Brian and Cheryl Bell, Carolyn Sue Kraft and Andrew Kraft; three great grandchildren, Mark and Michelle Staroska and Matthew Kraft Sonet; and a sister-i-law, Sylvia Edler of Sheboygan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine De Smith, and a grandson Jeffrey Kraft.
