Howard E. Ballinger, 81, Anderson, died Jan. 14, 1997, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Elwood, and was a lifelong resident of Madison County. He retired in 1975 as a machine operator at Delco Remy after 34 years of employment.
He formerly attended First Church of Christ, Scientist in Elwood. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 681 F&AM, member more than 50 years of Eagles Lodge, life member of Moose Lodge and Disabled American Veterans.
He was also a member of United Auto Workers Local 662 Retirees and American Legion George Hockett Post 127.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Ballinger of Indianapolis; former wife, Susie Ballinger of Indianapolis; brother and sister-in-law, Harry K. and Agnes Ballinger of Elwood; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and Vincent Roop of Chesterfield and Mary and Don Lanning of Anderson; two stepgrandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Opal S. Ballinger, in 1991; grandson, Jason Ballinger, in 1987; and stepson, Larry Burke.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. Brent Halstead of Grace Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours before services Monday at the funeral home.
