On his WWI draft registration card, he is listed as tall and stout with grey eyes and light colored hair; he was a self-employed miner. In 1920, he lived with his wife Bessie, brother John, and grandfather Almond G. Martin in Granby Ward 2, Newton Co., Missouri and worked as a miner on his lease. They lived next door to the family of Luther and Mary Buttram.

According to the 1930 U.S. Census for Bisbee, he lived with his wife Bessie and two in-laws (Anna and Fred Davis) and was a carman at the concentrator. In 1942 and 1946, he worked at a lab and in the ice plant for Arizona Edison Company, and he and Bessie lived at 11 Douglas Rd below Lowell. By 1951, he was still working for Arizona Edison as a meter tester and they lived at 19 Douglas Rd. He died at home of a coronary occlusion and had had emphysema for more than 10 years. He was buried on 20 June 1958.
