Charles Leonard Smith Grand Ledge Age 80, died unexpectedly Monday evening, July 23, 2012, at his home. Mr. Smith was born June 11, 1932 in Danby Township, a son of Alzeo Leonard and Clara Louise (Jessup) Smith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired General Motors employee. Charles loved his farm and animals and enjoyed living in the country, especially enjoying his retirement years on the farm. May he rest in peace. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn (Darby) Smith; son-in-law, Tim Dunavin and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Kleinfelt, Harold Troyer and Marlin Berens. Surviving are his children, Sandra Dunavin of Phoenix, AZ, Douglas (Denise) Smith of Mulliken and Ron Smith of Portland; 4 grand- children, 3 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Kleinfelt of Grand Ledge, Margaret Troyer of Lansing and Alice Berens of Maywood, NE; his brother, R. Ben (Arlene) Smith of Lansing; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, May Apsey and her family. Services 11 a.m. Friday (today) at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Denise Smith officiating. Interment will be in Danby Cemetery.
