BENJAMIN F. BEAN (d. 1947)

Benjamin F. Bean, 73 (above), retired railroad engineer, died Tuesday at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. C. G. MacKenzie of 1112 Washington street. He had
been ill six months.
Funeral services will beheld at 2 p.m. Friday at the Shimek and Schwartz funeral
home, the Rev. A.C. Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Bean was born in Manitowoc in 1869 and in 1885 was employed as a fireman by
the old Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western road, which later became the North
Western road. After three years he was promoted to engineer and retired in 1939
after 54 years service with the railroad.
He was a charter member of the Manitowoc aerie of Eagles and a member of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers.
In 1890 he married Miss Olga Klingholz. She preceded him in death in 1937.
Survivors are two sons, Harrison and George of this city; two daughters, Mrs.
MacKenzie and Mrs. Frank Ferdon of this city; a sister, Mrs. R. Hartung of
Watertown, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
