Mrs. William Bermke, 82, nee Emma Opitz, died this noon at the home, 1423 Clark
street, following a lingering illness.
Funeral plans will be announced Monday.
Mrs. Bermke was born in Germany in 1861 and when a child accompanied her parents
to this country. The family located on a farm in Centerville and she was married
in 1882 to Mr. Bermke. They operated a farm in that town until 1913 when they
moved to this city. Mr. Bermke died 17 years ago.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Oscar Schmitz, Sheboygan, Mrs. George Cosma,
Oak Park, Ill., Mrs. Oscar Kielsmeier, Newton, Mrs. William Rehrauer, Two Rivers,
Mrs. John Jacobsen, city; son, Max, of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Wacholz,
of this city; Mrs. John McKeough of Bensonville, Ill.; two half-brothers, George
and John Steinbrecker, of Manitowoc; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home after seven
o’clock Sunday evening.

noon at her home, 1423 Clark street, Manitowoc, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at
the Wattawa-Urbanek and Schlei Funeral home, and at 2:30 p.m. at the First German
Evangelical church, with the Rev. L. H. Koeninger officiating. Burial will be made
in Evergreen cemetery.
