MANITOWOC GIRL VISITS IN SOUTH AND CARDS TELL OF WEDDING
Announcement of Marriage of Miss Harriet Kress at Little Rock, Ark.,
Comes as Surprise to Friends
Married at Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday, Oct. 4th, 1913, Miss Harriet Reed Kress
of Manitowoc, Wis., to Mr. Harry B. Owseley(sic) of Little Rock, the Rev. Dr. Smith
of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
This brief announcement received by friends of the bride yesterday came as a
complete surprise to friends, not even the most intimate friends of Miss Kress
having received an intimation of the approaching event. Friends will await the
coming of Mr. and Mrs. Owseley who will visit the city following a two weeks'
honeymoon. Miss Kress departed two weeks ago for a visit with her brothers in
Arkansas and Oklahoma and while there a friendship formed a year ago when she met
Mr. Owseley was renewed and led to the happy culmination announced by the cards
received yesterday.
The bride is a daughter of Postmaster and Mrs. H. G. Kress and one of the popular
society girls of the city, having been prominent in social circles of the city in
which she moved. Born in this city, she had spent her life in the city graduating
from the local schools and later attending higher educational institutions. Miss
Kress is descended from one of the oldest families of the city, her grandfather,
the late George Reed, having been the first lawyer to practice his profession in
this state. He was also the first president of the village of Manitowoc and was
president of the Wisconsin Railway company. Mr. Owseley is associated with the Etna
Powder Co. at Little Rock where the couple will make their future home. A large
circle of friends will tender congratulations and a welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Owseley
upon their arrival here.
