His resignation was filed with the county court Wednesday.
Mr. Carden was born in the historic log cabin at Greenbrier Springs. At the age of 14 he enlisted with the Southern forces and served as a member of the Luury battery, thirteenth Virginia artillery.
His wife, Matilda Alice Brown, died 35 years ago. Mr. Carden is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. Baker Harris, of Ashland, Ky., and one brother, Green Carden, of Pence Springs.
Mr. Carden's private life was very quiet. He was a Master Mason of the Greenville lodge and a Democrat.
