Joseph Michael Adam, 40, of 804 W. Straub Road died Saturday afternoon, June 15, 1996, in the Cleveland Clinic due to complications from a heart transplant operation in 1992. He was born Nov. 15, 1955 in Shelby. He was a 1974 graduate of Shelby Senior High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Toledo with a bachelor’s degree in education. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America, Newhope Industries and most recently, Sprint-United Telephone Co. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby. He is survived by his parents, Russell and Jerry Smith Adam, Shelby; two brothers, John Adam of Pamplona, Spain, and Jeff Adam of Mansfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Dan McDowell of Mansfield; two sisters-in-law, Denise Brown and Benay Adam, both of Shelby; a niece; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Carrie Adam; his maternal grandparents, John and Ruth Smith; and a brother, James Adam in 1993. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, Shelby, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Jeff Matthews. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
