Final rites for Hardy D Myers, 66, caretaker at the Alumni gymnasium and the Earl Carr Memorial athletic field in Auburn, will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday in the Dilgard & Cline funeral home in the city.
Mr Myers, a resident at 1320 South Jackson street, Auburn, died of cancer at 4:05 p.m. Thursday in the Dr J A Sanders hospital in Auburn.
He was admitted to the hospital a week ago and underwent surgery last Monday. His condition became critical about 24 hours before his death. He first became ill about three months ago, but remained at work until three days before he entered the hospital.
Mr Myers was a lifelong resident of the Auburn community, born in 1882 in the city. He conducted a filling station in Auburn about 10 years. He was also formerly employed with the Auburn Automobile company and the Culbertson Hardware company. For the past 15 years he had been employed by the Auburn school board as caretaker.
In 1902, he married the former Goldie Diehl at Butler.
She survives with four daughters, Mrs Forest Potter of 800 South VanBuren street, Auburn; Mrs Denman Coyle of 1323 South Jackson street, Auburn; Mrs Darrell Grosh of 1303 South Jackson street, Auburn, and Miss Joan Myers at home; one son, William Myers at home, and seven grandchildren
His parents, the late Mr and Mrs John N Myers of Auburn, preceded him in death.
Mr Myers was a member of the St Mark's Lutheran church in Auburn.
At Saturday's rites, Rev Allen K Trout, pastor of the St Mark's Lutheran church, will officiate with burial in Woodlawn cemetery.
