Known as Dawn Clark Netsch, she moved to Chicago to attend and graduate from Northwestern University Law School, where she served on the faculty until her death. She was active in Democratic Party politics, serving as State Senator and State Comptroller. In 1994, she was the Democratic candidate for Governor of Illinois, losing to Republican candidate Jim Edgar. She and her husband Walter Netsch had no children.
