DR Notes: Discrepancies in state of birth, and day of death. 1910 census of Grass Valley, Nevada County, California shows Elsie* as the 13 year old daughter of Asa C. & Ida M. Pingree. Father, Asa C. was the only member of the Pingree household who was listed as a native of Maine, all other Pingrees in the household were listed as natives of California. The eldest child in the home was 25, indicating that Asa had been in California for at least that many years. Asa C. & Ida M. Pingree were both listed as being in their first marriage of 26 years duration and she was the mother of 8 children, 6 of whom were living at the time of this census (five of the six appear in the Pingree household).
*Elsie's name is a little hard to decipher on the 1910 census, but I am fairly certain this is her on this census, the name starts with "Els" and she is the correct age.
The 1900 census has the Pingree's* also in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, Elsie was then 3, born in Feb. of 1897 in California. Could she have been a native of Nevada County, California? The odds are looking pretty good. The best place to look for that answer would be at the Doris Foley Library for Historical Research in Nevada City. The birth index of Nevada County would be key to solving this dilemma, and her obituary is probably available from this library as well.

*The family came up on the transcription of the 1900 census at Heritage Quest as:
Pinger, Asa age 47 n/o Maine, but the rest of the family were again natives of California.
