ANITA P. (PLEUSS) OBERLAND

Anita P. Oberland, age 93, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.


Anita was born June 7, 1912 at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Ernst L. and Bertha (Giese) Pleuss. She grew up and was educated in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1929. In 1933 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Anita married Paul V. Oberland on March 24, 1945 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Paul preceded Anita in death Sept. 14, 1974. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Anita served in World War II in the U.S. Army and the 20th Air Force at the Pentagon, Washington, DC. She retired as captain.


Survivors include her children: Neil Oberland, Manitowoc; Margaret "Maggie" (Charles) Kluenker, Roseville, Calif.; grandchildren: David (Erica) Kluenker, John, Jeffrey and Katherine Kluenker; great grandson: Jacob Kluenker; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Groll, and a brother, Frederick Pleuss.


Private funeral services for close family and friends will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul N. Schossow will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the time of services.


The staff of the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Manitowoc, is serving the Oberland Family.
